Eight labourers die, more than 30 injured in Madhya Pradesh crash
Eight labourers were killed and more than 30 others injured when a pick-up vehicle carrying workers collided with a truck in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district, The Economic Times reported
The accident occurred near Chhimka village in the early hours of Tuesday. The labourers were reportedly travelling home to Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh after working in Gwalior.
Police said the pick-up vehicle collided with an oncoming dumper truck after its driver apparently lost control while attempting to avoid cattle on the road.
Five people died at the scene, while three others died from their injuries while being taken to hospital, according to police.
More than 30 injured workers were taken to a hospital in Gohad. Those in critical condition were later referred to Gwalior for specialised treatment.
“The vehicle went in the wrong direction and collided with a dumper truck coming from the. Opposite direction,” Gohad Chauraha police station in-charge Ramnaresh Yadav said, according to The Economic Times.
The crash caused extensive damage to the pick-up vehicle, and several passengers were trapped inside. Police and local residents carried out rescue operations and helped move the injured to hospital.
