World will now know true Kashmir situation: BJP on US envoy visit

Srinagar:  BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur on Wednesday termed the visit of US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor to Jammu and Kashmir as a “very positive thing”, saying it will help the world know the “actual situation” in the Union Territory.

“The way conditions used to be in Kashmir earlier, now for once, the entire world should also get to know what the actual situation in Kashmir is,” Thakur said.

The BJP leader said the US envoy’s meetings with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha would give him a first-hand account of the “significant changes” in Kashmir’s situation and the progress achieved on various fronts since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

“Now, with the US Ambassador visiting, meeting the Chief Minister and the LG, they will also brief others in their own way about the significant changes in Kashmir’s situation and the current level of development and progress on other issues,” Thakur said.

This is the first visit by a serving US Ambassador to Kashmir since the region was reorganised as a Union Territory. Gor also serves as the Special Envoy to South and Central Asia. (KNS)
