Imran Khan returns to Adiala Jail after brief hospital stay under SC order

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was taken back to Adiala Jail after a brief stay at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad, his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party said on Friday.

Khan had been moved to the hospital following a Supreme Court order issued on Aug 18, directing authorities to transfer him from prison for medical examination and treatment.

The court ordered that Khan be examined by a medical panel comprising specialists and his personal physician.

The Pakistan government challenged the Supreme Court’s decision to send Khan to the private hospital, arguing that the move could create legal complications for the prison system.

Khan, 73, has been in prison since August 2023 and faces multiple legal cases.

Khan’s party and family have raised concerns over his health and have sought appropriate medical care for the former Prime Minister.

The government, however, has disputed claims that Khan requires urgent medical treatment. Following the brief hospital stay, Khan was returned to Adiala Jail, where he has remained incarcerated since August 2023.
