MP Ruhullah slams NC over broken promises, says people were deceived

Srinagar: National Conference MP from Srinagar Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Sunday criticised National Conference and the government in Jammu and Kashmir, accusing it of failing to fulfil key pre-poll promises and cautioning the leadership against “arrogance”.

Speaking to reporters in Baramulla, MP Ruhullah said the government had failed to deliver on its promise of providing 200 units of free electricity to consumers.

“We told people we will give 200 units for free. For two years, we have not been able to do so,” he said.

Questioning the increase in power tariffs instead of fulfilling the electoral commitment, the MP said the people had been “deceived” and stressed that the government must be accountable for its promises.

MP Ruhullah also expressed concern over delays in government recruitment, saying several people selected or commissioned for government roles were still awaiting appointments.

He claimed that in some cases, trials had not even commenced, while the government had completed two years in office.

The MP said the delay was particularly concerning in view of the party’s electoral promises to create thousands of jobs.

Asked about speculation over his political future, including the possibility of forming a new political party, MP Ruhullah did not give a direct answer but said politics required “character, principle, and conviction”.

“I don’t need anyone to take me seriously. Allah should take my work seriously,” he said.

Srinagar MP said his focus would be on bringing together people of character from across Jammu and Kashmir, while emphasising the need for honesty in public life. (KNS).
