Five injured after fire breaks out at Russia’s Amur petrochemical facility

Anadolu Agency reported that at least five people were injured Tuesday after a fire broke out at the Amur Gas Chemical Complex in Russia’s Far East, the facility said.

The fire started in an auxiliary processing area of the complex’s pyrolysis unit but did not damage the unit’s main equipment, the company said in a statement posted on Telegram. The blaze was later contained, it said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, according to the company.

The Amur Gas Chemical Complex is a major petrochemical project in Russia’s Amur region and is designed to produce plastics and other chemical products. The facility is part of a wider industrial development in the Russian Far East.

No further details were immediately available on the condition of those injured or whether the incident would affect operations at the plant.

The incident comes amid a series of fires and industrial accidents at Russian energy and petrochemical facilities this year. In March, a fire and explosion at the Nizhnekamskneftekhim petrochemical plant in Russia’s Tatarstan region killed two people and injured more than 70.

The Amur facility said emergency services responded to Tuesday’s fire and that the situation was under control.
