Eight bodies recovered in Nepal flood-hit districts, police say

Bodies of eight persons have been recovered so far from various parts of Nuwakot and Dhading districts of Nepal, with the search and rescue operation entering its fifth day in Nepal on Wednesday, Nepal News reported.

The bodies were reportedly recovered after a flash flood through parts of northern Nepal devastated villages when the overflow entered the areas from the Tibet side on Sunday. “So far we have retrieved four bodies from Dhading district while six have been found in Nuwakot,” the Central Police Spokesperson said.

The heavy flooding has led to vast areas of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and lower parts being damaged over the last few days, destroying roads, bridges and other property, including buildings. “A section of a 42 km road that connects Betrawati in the Nuwakot district to Rasuwagadhi border checkpoint has been damaged at many points, with several bridges destroyed,” said the Department of Roads in Nepal.

Nepal Army, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force are carrying out search and rescue operations, with two army helicopters and medical teams deployed to the affected areas to provide immediate assistance.

Residents living along the Trishuli and Narayani rivers were alerted and urged to move to safer areas where necessary. The full extent of the damage, including casualties and property losses, has yet to be assessed as rescue teams reach the affected areas.
