Afghanistan Freedom Front claims killing Taliban commander in Ghazni

The Afghanistan Freedom Front said it killed a Taliban commander in a guerrilla operation in Afghanistan’s Ghazni province late Friday, but there was no immediate confirmation from Taliban officials.

The armed opposition group said on X that its fighters carried out the operation at about 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, targeting Mullah Omar Sediq, whom it identified as deputy commander of Unit 06 under Taliban commander Hafiz Badruddin in Ghazni.

“Freedom fighters of the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) carried out their first guerrilla operation in Ghazni Province at around 9:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, killing Mullah Omar Sediq,” the group said.

The claim could not immediately be independently verified.  The Afghanistan Freedom Front, an armed anti-Taliban group, has claimed responsibility for attacks against Taliban positions in several parts of Afghanistan. In July, the group alleged that their men killed and wounded Taliban militants while clashes occurred in Badakhshan province.

The latest claim comes amid continued armed opposition to Taliban rule, which has faced sporadic attacks from anti-Taliban groups since returning to power in 2021.

No information regarding the civilian and AFF fighters casualties, as a result of the operation, on Friday, was provided immediately.
