Iranian drones strike Kurdish opposition camp in Iraq, group says

Three Iranian drones hit a camp belonging to an Iranian Kurdish opposition group in Iraq’s Kurdistan region, with no loss of life reported in the latest attack on Kurdish opposition sites amid ongoing regional hostilities, the Rudaw reported, a Kurdish news outlet.

The Iranian Kurdish opposition group said the drones struck the group’s camp in Surdash, Sulaymaniyah province. It said there were no casualties from the strike.

The strike is part of a wider Iranian missile and drone offensive targeting Iranian Kurdish opposition groups in Iraq’s autonomous region of Kurdistan. Such attacks have grown since the outbreak of war between Iran, Israel and the United States in February.

The Kurdistan Region Security Council said earlier that the Surdash camp, which houses refugees from Iranian Kurdish opposition groups, was hit by missiles and drones.

The camp has been linked to Komala, an Iranian Kurdish opposition group. Iranian authorities have repeatedly targeted Iranian Kurdish opposition groups in northern Iraq.

There was no immediate response from Iranian authorities confirming responsibility for the most recent reported strike.

The attacks have heightened fears in Baghdad and the Kurdistan region of the Iran conflict spilling over into Iraqi territory. Over the past months, camps and bases of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups in the region have been hit repeatedly.
