East Bengal hold Mohun Bagan to 1-1 draw in Kolkata derby
The Kolkata derby between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan Super Giant ended 1 – 1 in the Calcutta Football League on Monday. Manvir Singh gave Mohun Bagan the lead before East Bengal fought back to get a point.
Manvir scored in the 39th minute to give Mohun Bagan a 1 – 0 halftime lead after a defensive lapse. The Indian Express reported, “Manvir Singh scored in the 39th minute for Mohun Bagan Super Giant.”
East Bengal fielded a reserve side against a Mohun Bagan side that had several first-team players but they were competitive and created chances after the break. In the 64th minute, substitute Mohamed Bilal headed in a corner.
The draw kept East Bengal unbeaten in Group 1 and both teams progressed to the Super Six stage of the 2026-27 Calcutta Football League.
Mohun Bagan had entered the game seeking a response after East Bengal’s emphatic 4-1 win in the Durand Cup final last month. Despite dominating the game for the majority of it, the Mariners were unable to score a second goal to retake the lead following Bilal’s goal.
