Russian drone strikes Kyiv TV station during live broadcast, injuring five

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a television station in Kyiv was hit by a Russian drone while journalists were broadcasting live on Tuesday, injuring at least five people and partially destroying the building.

The drone struck the building housing the “We Are Ukraine” television channel, which is part of the United News telethon, during a daytime broadcast, Zelenskyy said. Emergency crews arrived on scene and put out a fire caused by the strike.

“Today Russia struck at the media, at journalists,” Zelenskyy said in a Telegram statement. “A strike drone attacked the building of the TV channel ‘We – Ukraine’ of the telethon ‘United News.’ Precisely when journalists were on air. Right in the middle of the day.”

“As of now, five injured are known. Unfortunately, the number may still increase,” he continued.

Zelenskyy condemned the attack and called for an international response, saying, “Shaheds against media is a new page of Russian degradation.”

The strike was part of a series of Russian missile and drone strikes on Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine. Russian strikes on Kyiv earlier Tuesday killed at least two people and injured others, damaging residential and civilian infrastructure, according to Ukrainian officials.
