US Central Command denies Iran’s claim that two Navy destroyers were struck

US Central Command(CENTCOM) on Wednesday denied claims by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that its forces hit two US Navy destroyers operating in the Middle East. The attacks failed and no American warship was struck.

“Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces have claimed they struck two US Navy destroyers operating in the Middle East. This is completely FALSE,” CENTCOM said in a statement posted on social media.

The command added that all attempted Iranian attacks on US vessels had broken up. The denial came as tensions mount between Washington and Tehran following a series of military exchanges in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC has said its forces struck two US vessels as part of retaliatory operations following American attacks on Iranian oil tankers. Iranian state-linked outlets said the attacks came amid increased confrontation over shipping restrictions in the strategic waterway.

An American aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer successfully evaded multiple Iranian ballistic missile attacks, according to CENTCOM.
