Afghanistan Freedom Front claims two Taliban soldiers killed in Kabul attack

As armed opposition groups continue to claim attacks against Taliban security forces, the Afghanistan Freedom Front said it killed two Taliban soldiers in an attack on a checkpoint in the Sara Shamali neighbourhood of Kabul on Wednesday, local media reported.

The group said the attack targeted a Taliban checkpoint in the northern part of the Afghan capital. Two Taliban soldiers were killed in the operation, it said.

The allegation could not be independently verified. Taliban authorities had not immediately confirmed the reported casualties or made any public comment on the attack.

The Afghanistan Freedom Front, an armed group that emerged after the Taliban returned to power in 2021, has claimed responsibility for attacks on Taliban checkpoints and security personnel in Kabul and elsewhere in Afghanistan.

In another attack, reported in August, the group said its fighters killed three Taliban and wounded two others in an attack on a checkpoint in the 16th security district of Kabul. Taliban officials also did not confirm the casualties.

The latest reported attack comes after armed opposition groups have claimed attacks against Taliban forces, though independent verification of casualty figures is difficult.
