The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it had received a report of an incident involving a tanker and military forces in the Indian Ocean.

“UKMTO have received a report of an incident involving a tanker and military forces in the Indian Ocean,” the maritime security agency said in an advisory, according to Anadolu Agency.

UKMTO did not name the tanker or the military forces involved or say what type of incident it was, including whether there were any casualties or damage. It advised vessels operating in the area to remain vigilant and keep abreast of the latest maritime security information.

“Vessels are advised to consider the latest maritime security information and maintain awareness of the evolving operational environment,” UKMTO said.

The agency said authorities were aware of the incident and “relevant investigations remain ongoing.”

The report comes amid growing concerns about maritime security in the Indian Ocean and surrounding waters where commercial shipping faces greater risks due to regional military tensions. UKMTO is the first point of contact for merchant vessels and military forces operating in the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden and Red Sea.
