The Board of Control for Cricket in India has empowered its office bearers to decide the fate of the men’s senior selection committee, putting the post of chief selector Ajit Agarkar in the balance after its annual general meeting on Friday.

A senior BCCI official told reporters, “The office bearers have been authorised to take decisions on the matters concerning the selection committees,” according to PTI.

As his current contract ends this month, Agarkar’s tenure has been under the scanner. The former India fast bowler has been heading the senior selection panel since July 2023 and was handed a brief extension after completing his initial term.

The BCCI’s 95th AGM in Mumbai saw no announcement regarding the extension or replacement for Agarkar. According to Cricbuzz, the office bearers will now decide on the composition of the senior men’s selection panel.

PTI reported that the board is also looking to fill all the five posts of the junior selection committee.

Agarkar’s future has been clouded ever since he skipped a BCCI performance review meeting earlier this month, although secretary Devajit Saikia said it was because he was out of town and had connectivity problems.
