Houthi attack repelled in mountainous Taiz areas, Yemeni forces say

Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces said they repelled an attack by the Houthis on their positions in mountainous areas near the town of Dhubab in Taiz province Al Hadath reported.

Local media said government forces repelled the attack and forced the Houthi fighters to retreat from the targeted positions. There were no independent casualty figures available right now.

The fighting was around Dhubab, a critical strategic point overlooking the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The Houthis reached the town of Dhubab earlier this month.

Yemeni government forces have reported renewed clashes with the Houthis across Taiz in recent weeks. On Thursday, the Taiz Military Axis said its forces had “foiled an attack launched by the Houthi militia” on the Al-Anin front in Jabal Habashi district, according to Anadolu Ajansı.

Fighting continued on several fronts, including in Taiz, where government forces pushed forward in the west after beating back a Houthi offensive, Al Jazeera said this week.

The latest fighting is part of a broader escalation in Yemen’s more than decade-long civil war.
