Suicide blast near police lines in Pakistan’s Kohat kills 15, injures dozens
Local media reported that 15 people were killed in a suicide blast near police lines in Kohat during Friday prayers with dozens injured.
An explosion occurred close to the police lines in the city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the injured were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital where an emergency was declared, Dunya News reported.
The Kohat – Hangu Road was closed to traffic after the blast and police cordoned off the area.
Further details were not immediately available about the circumstances of the attack, the identity of the attacker or whether any group had claimed responsibility.
The attack comes amid a surge of militant violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to The Associated Press, six soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in neighboring Hangu on Thursday, and Pakistani security forces said they killed 10 militants in separate operations in North Waziristan and Hangu.
As security operations continue throughout the province, authorities have repeatedly urged residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant.
