A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and stabbed to death in north-west Delhi and police have arrested a 19-year-old man and detained three juveniles in connection with the crime, local media reported.

The girl’s decomposed body was found in an open field near Kushak Road in the Swaroop Nagar area on Sept. 13, a few days after the alleged crime. One hand was found separated and parts of the body had been eaten by stray dogs, according to police.

The girl knew the accused and went to meet a 17-year-old boy, police said. The group allegedly travelled in a tempo where they drank before the girl was sexually assaulted, stabbed and killed, investigators said.

After the body was found, police examined footage from over 50 CCTV cameras. The four suspects were apprehended after investigators tracked down a suspected tempo seen close to the crime scene and conducted a night-long search operation. Police said they found two knives, clothing, and the tempo.

A medical examination confirmed rape, and investigators found multiple stab wounds. The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Further investigation is ongoing.
