BJP, Congress MLAs marshalled out amid uproar in JK Assembly

Srinagar: BJP and Congress legislators were marshalled out of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday following continued sloganeering and disruptions during the debate on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s resolution seeking restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

BJP MLAs Vikram Randhawa and Arvind Gupta, along with Congress legislators Irfan Hafiz Lone and Iftikhar Ahmad, were escorted out of the House as the protests continued.

The Speaker warned the protesting members of strict action and urged legislators to maintain discipline and uphold the decorum of the House.

“Maintain discipline or face tough action,” the Speaker said amid continued slogans and protests.

The disruption followed protests by BJP members over references to autonomy and the pre-1953 constitutional position in the statehood resolution. Congress legislators also joined the protests, raising slogans and displaying banners inside the Assembly.

The proceedings were repeatedly disrupted as members continued their protests while the debate on the statehood resolution remained underway.
