Three traffic policemen killed in shooting in Pakistan’s Tank district

Three traffic police officers were killed and three others injured when unidentified armed men opened fire on a police vehicle in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday, police said.

A preliminary police report said the attack took place in the Wazirabad area of Tank district, where gunmen targeted a traffic police mobile van, Dawn reported.

Two passers-by were among those injured and taken to hospital for treatment. Police said the attackers fled the scene with the traffic police vehicle after the shooting.

A large police contingent reached the spot, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the suspects and recover the vehicle, police said.

Police continued to try to arrest the attackers and the vehicle was later recovered from Gara Budha, Geo News reported.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Gov. Faisal Karim Kundi condoled with the families of the officers who embraced martyrdom and sought a report from the senior officials. An investigation was underway to find those behind the attack.
