Houthi media says Saudi airstrikes hit telecommunications infrastructure in Yemen

Tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-aligned group continue to escalate as Saudi airstrikes targeted telecommunications infrastructure in Yemen’s western Hodeidah governorate, Houthi-affiliated media reported.

Houthi media said the strikes hit telecommunications facilities in the al-Durayhimi district. There was no immediate information in reports on casualties or damage.

The claims could not be verified independently. Saudi authorities did not immediately respond to reports of strikes.

Saudi Arabia has supported Yemen’s internationally recognised government in its long-running war with the Houthis who control much of northern and western Yemen, including Hodeidah.

The reported strikes come amid renewed military tensions in and around Hodeidah. Earlier, Al-Masirah TV, affiliated with the Houthis, said strikes by the Saudi-led coalition targeted facilities of Yemen’s state telecommunications corporation in the province of Hodeidah. In July, the coalition stated its operations were aimed at what it called Houthi military sites linked to threats against commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
