JK weather: Dry spell likely till Oct 4, light rain and snow forecast over higher reaches

Srinagar: Generally dry weather is likely to prevail across Jammu and Kashmir until October 4, with a spell of light rain and snowfall over higher reaches forecast for October 5 and 6, according to the Meteorological Centre.

Weather conditions are expected to remain generally dry on September 30 and from October 1 to 4.

On October 5 and 6, partly to generally cloudy conditions are likely, with light rain, thunder and gusty winds possible at a few places. Light snowfall may also occur over the higher reaches during the period, the MeT centre said.

Dry weather is forecast to return on October 7 and 8.

The Meteorological Centre has also forecast another spell of partly to generally cloudy weather from October 9 to 11. During this period, scattered areas may receive light rain, while light snowfall is possible over higher reaches, accompanied by thunder and gusty winds.

The weather office has advised farmers to continue harvesting apples and paddy and carry out other agricultural operations during the period.

Weather in Delhi-NCR and Northwest India

There is expected to be a major change in weather in Delhi-NCR from September 30 onwards. After the region witnessed heavy rains and thunderstorms in the past, the weather is expected to remain largely dry from Wednesday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the national capital and its neighbouring areas will experience largely clear skies from September 30 onwards.

Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh are expected to remain largely dry during the first week of October. The dry spell is also likely to extend across much of northwest India.

Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and most parts of Uttar Pradesh will remain dry, according to the weather office.

On Wednesday, Delhi’s minimum temperature is likely to be 24 degrees Celsius, while the maximum may reach 33 degrees Celsius. As rainfall eases, temperatures are expected to rise in the coming days, weather scientists said.

Rains in other parts of the country

While no significant rainfall is expected in Delhi, several other parts of India are likely to continue receiving rain in the coming days.

Uttarakhand is expected to witness isolated rain and thunderstorms until at least October 4. A similar weather pattern is likely in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh between October 2 and 4.

Himachal Pradesh may also receive isolated rainfall.

Rain and thunderstorms are likely in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh in the coming days.

The northeastern states are also expected to receive rain. Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are forecast to receive rainfall through October 4, with some areas likely to witness heavy rain, according to the IMD.

Rainfall is also likely to continue in southern India. Isolated heavy showers are forecast over several southern states during the next four to five days. Tamil Nadu, Kerala and south interior Karnataka may receive heavy showers in the coming days, the weather office said.

As the monsoon retreats, northwest India is likely to remain predominantly dry.
