One Lebanese soldier, three civilians wounded in Nabatieh strike

An Israeli attack on a Lebanese army vehicle in Nabatieh al-Fawqa in southern Lebanon wounded one soldier seriously and three civilians on Wednesday, the Lebanese army said.

“A soldier was seriously wounded as the result of an Israeli targeting of an army vehicle” in the area, the army said in a statement, adding that three civilians were also injured.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said an Israeli drone targeted Nabatieh al-Fawqa. There was no immediate comment from Israel’s military.

The strike came as tensions in southern Lebanon continued despite a US-brokered framework deal between Lebanon and Israel in June. The agreement calls for the phased pullout of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon, the deployment of the Lebanese army in any areas of south Lebanon that Israel vacates and provisions concerning Hezbollah’s arms.

Lebanese forces began deploying in designated “pilot zones” in July, but implementation of the broader deal has since stalled, AFP reported.

The strike came after repeated Israeli strikes and other military activity in southern Lebanon in recent weeks.
