Two minors allegedly assaulted in Bihar’s Gaya, 2 arrested

Two minors were allegedly abused and assaulted by a group of youths near a hill in the Gaya district of Bihar and police later arrested two suspects after a video of the incident went viral on social media, local media reported.

The incident occurred on Monday near Mahuadih village under Sherghati police station, police said. The boy and girl were riding a motorbike when they were allegedly stopped by a gang of youths.

The youths allegedly abused and assaulted the minors, snatched the motorbike keys and punctured its tyres, according to police. The two were reportedly kept at the premises for a while.

Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police Sushil Kumar said two suspects have been arrested and an FIR registered at Sherghati police station. Investigators were trying to identify other persons allegedly involved in the incident, he said. The circumstances and authenticity of the video were also being verified by police.

The Gaya case comes in the wake of a spate of reported incidents of women and minors being harassed or assaulted in Bihar. In Banka, three youths were detained by the police after a video of a minor girl being harassed at Mandar Hill went viral.
