Ukrainian strikes set ablaze an oil export terminal and a storage depot in St Petersburg and killed at least one person, marking one of Kyiv’s largest drone offensives of the war and ratcheting up tensions with Washington.

On Sunday, five people were also wounded in the strikes which also hit a Russian retailer Ozon logistics hub and a data centre for tech company VK, local authorities and companies said, as reported by The Associated Press.

Russian forces have shot down 1,015 Ukrainian drones in 15 regions of Russia, including occupied Crimea and the Black Sea, the Defence Ministry said.

The attack came as tensions mounted between Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump, who has condemned Kyiv’s strikes on Russian oil facilities and supported his decision to hold off on new sanctions targeting Moscow.

Trump said he did not want to do anything that could “foolishly” force Russia “away from the bargaining table,” The Associated Press said.

Ukraine has resumed attacks on Russian oil sites following a brief lull, alleging that Moscow has continued to target Ukrainian energy sites after Trump’s call for an ‘energy ceasefire’.

One week after the announcement, Zelenskyy said Russia attacked Ukraine’s energy, oil and gas sectors 76 times, leaving thousands of families without electricity.

In the meantime, Russian missile strikes in Ukraine killed at least one woman and wounded some people, including a child, officials said.
