After an eight-year gap, the Aligarh Muslim University Students’ Union is set to return with new heads.

Aligarh: The results of the Aligarh Muslim University Students’ Union (AMUSU) elections for the 2026-27 session have been officially announced, marking the return of an elected students’ union at the university after a gap of eight years.

Noman Ashraf has been elected President, securing 7,797 votes and defeating his nearest rival by a margin of 4,121 votes.

Nashra Naim has been elected Vice-President with 7,091 votes, winning by a margin of 1,273 votes. Her election marks a historic milestone, as she becomes the first woman to be elected to an office-bearer position in the AMUSU.

The newly elected Vice-President Nashra said, “I believe that achieving this in such a short time, with limited resources and a small team, was possible because of the dedication, courage and sincerity of the people who joined us. I feel that leadership needs to be redefined. Over the past eight years, several issues have emerged, and even before that, when the Students’ Union was active, we had heard about many challenges.”

Mohammad Hamdan has been elected Honorary Secretary, polling 8,385 votes and securing victory by a margin of 1,503 votes.

The newly elected Cabinet Members and Court Members will also form part of the incoming students’ leadership.

The announcement marks a significant development in campus politics at Aligarh Muslim University, with the elected students’ union returning after an eight-year hiatus.
