Banihal man, suspected to be HM militant, arrested in UP

Srinagar: Suspected member of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant outfit has been arrested from India’s central state of Uttar Pradesh.

India Today news portal reported that one Naseer Ahmed, “who is an active militant of Hizbul Mujahideen” was nabbed by Shashastra Seema Bal (SSB) posted on Indo-Nepal border on Saturday in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj area from Sanauli border post.

A resident of Dolgam village in Banihal of Ramban district, which falls in Jammu division of J&K state, Naseer is 34-year-old and is popular as Sadiq.

The news report alleged that Naseer was “trying to sneak in India from Nepal as a Kashmiri shawl and carpet vendor in disguise”. “When he was asked for his identity, he was unable to produce any supporting documents,” the report said.

It added that Naseer Ahmed landed in Kathmandu on May 10 from Faislabad (Pakistan) via Sharjah (UAE), along with his “accomplice” namely Mohammad Shafi. “They separated in Kathmandu.”

Naseer then boarded a bus to reach the Indo-Nepal Border “with the intention to sneak in the Indian Territory for ulterior motives”.

The news report claimed that Naseer was residing in Pakistan since 2003.
