Sabzar Killing Backlash: Government shuts Schools, Colleges on Tuesday

Srinagar: In view of ‘Tral Chalo’ called by the joint resistance leadership on Tuesday, the J&K Government on Monday issued an order shutting schools and colleges across Kashmir.

The call for a solidarity march was issued by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik against the killing of top Hizb ul Mujahideen commander, Sabzar Ahmad Bhat and his aide, Faizan Muzaffar Bhat.

The duo Hizb militants died fighting armed forces in Saimoo village of Tral on Saturday.

According to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, class work in all the schools/Higher Secondary Institutions and Colleges of Kashmir Valley shall remain suspended tomorrow (May 30) as a precautionary measure, an official spokesperson said this evening.

The Valley had been witnessing protest by students almost on every day following a crackdown by Indian army men on a college in Pulwama on April 15 which resulted in clashes injuring many students. The government had to close schools and colleges many a times to prevent further anti-India protests by the student community.

Kashmir Valley observed compete shutdown on Sunday and Monday against the killing of Sabzar and Faizan. Protests and clashes were reported from many places on Saturday, Sunday and Monday as well. One civilian was killed on Saturday in forces action during protests after news of Sabzar’s death spread.
