Srinagar: Another Indian army man has succumbed to his injuries taking the toll to two in suspected militant attack in Anantnag on Saturday.

Militants opened fire on an army convoy while it was on way to Kashmir this morning from winter capital of J&K.

The attack took place near Lower Munda Toll Plaza Qazigund. The militants escaped unhurt from the spot.

At least six army men were injured in the attack who were rushed to army’s sector-2 headquarter which is located in the same area. However, later two of the injured personnel succumbed to their injuries.

“Hundreds of forces personnel have reached the spot and many villages have been cordoned off,” a scribe told the FreePressKashmir from the spot.

“The army men were in rage as they asked people to come out of their homes in Badermuna, Changoo, Pranigam, Hillar and other adjacent villages of Qazigund,” he added.

“Massive search operation is going on in the area,” he further informed.

Official of J&K police told the FreePressKashmir, “two soldiers were killed while four others have been injured.”

The vital Srinagar-Jammu highway was closed as the army convoy came to a halt which resulted in massive traffic jam.

“The traffic has been restored and it is normal now,” the official said.
