Many feared dead after tree hits Gondola cable car

Srinagar: Strong winds uprooted a tree in Gulmarg which has hit a Gondola cable car. Initial reports suggest that at least six people including four tourists and two local guides have died in the incident.

The slain persons have been identified  as Jayant Andraskar, who was the son of Namdev, who was a resident of B-209,  admin staff quarters Shalimar Bagh, Dehli, Manshea Andraskar, who was the wife of Jayant residing at the same address, Anagha Jayanat Andraskar, who was the daughter of, Jahnvi Jayantandraskar also the daughter, Bilal Ahmad Ganai who was the son of Ali Mohd, a resident of Chonti Patri Babareshi, and Jan Mohammad Khanday of Warpora Tangmarg.

Gulmarg is a world famous ski resort and a meadow situated about 50 kilometers from the summer capital Srinagar.

Reports suggest that the cable car took rounds in the air while remaining stuck to the cable. However all of them were thrown out of the car and died after falling down on the rough hills beneath.

This is the first major accident which has taken place at the Gondola, a major attraction at Gulmarg.

Director Tourism Mehmood Ahmed is on the way to the spot and rescue operations are underway.
