UJC directs Trump admin to UN’s K-resolutions, says, ‘Salahuddin its real representative’

Syed Salahuddin, the United Jihad Council chief, addressing a gathering in Muzaffarabad in Muzaffarabad - capital of Pakistan administered Kashmir - on July 13, 2011.

Srinagar: A day after the United States declared United Jihad Council Chief, Syed Salahuddin, as “Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT)” and imposed sanctions on him, UJC on Tuesday said that Donald Trump has “made mockery” of UN Charter, International conventions and ground realities.

UJC spokesperson, Syed Sadaqat Hussain in an emailed statement to KNS said, “Syed Salahuddin is the leader of indigenous Kashmiri pro-freedom people who are fighting against the Indian occupation.”

The United States State Department on Monday designated Kashmiri militant leader and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen supreme commander Syed Salahuddin as a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” (SDGT) and imposed sanctions on him.

Muhammad Yusuf Shah aka Syed Salahuddin is the leader of the indigenous and largest militant group that “fights against Indian rule over Kashmir”.

PM Narendra Modi and US president Donald Trump arrive at a joint presser after the duo hold bilateral meeting on June 26, 2017 in Washington DC.

The development came just hours ahead of the scheduled meeting between visiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump.

“Kashmiri people and Mujahideen are fighting the Indian occupation and the world knows the fact that how India is violating human rights in Kashmir. International rights bodies like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch are witness to these violations,” the UJC spokesperson said.

At least there are eighteen resolutions in the United Nations passed over undivided Kashmir since 1947.

“Trump administration has announced the decision to keep Narendra Modi, who is the biggest terrorist of sub-continent, in good books. As per UN resolutions, the Kashmir movement is a genuine struggle and Salahuddin is its real representative. We have a firm conviction that the freedom loving nations will reject this announcement,” he said.

The spokesperson said, “the Indian leadership instead of brushing the dispute under the carpet should read writing on the wall and understand that the struggle in Kashmir is at such a stage where nobody can stop or weaken it.”

“The whole Kashmiri nation is at the forefront and will achieve its goal,” he said.

Salahuddin, 71, has five sons and two daughters who live in the Kashmir valley.

He hails from central Kashmir’s Budgam district, and had moved to Pakistan administered Kashmir in or around 1989 after he contested the Kashmir Assembly elections on a Muslim United Front (MUF) ticket in 1987.

Salahuddin finished his Masters in Political Science at Srinagar University in 1971, where he wrote several poems.

He later jointed Jama’at-e-Islami (JeI) after concluding his education and contested state elections in 1987.

He was arrested from inside the ticket counting hall in Srinagar and eventually released in 1989.

The MUF alleged widespread rigging of polls by the NC-Congress alliance led by Dr Farooq Abdullah.

He formed and joined the Hizbul Mujahideen.

Along with Hizb ul Mujahideen, Salahuddin also leads the United Jihad Council (UJC), which is a conglomerate of many militant outfits operating in Jammu and Kashmir since mid-1990s.

He hailed Burhan Wani as a ‘martyr’, and promised to turn the Kashmir valley “into a graveyard for Indian forces.”

On Monday, the UJC chief issued a week-long calendar on the death anniversary of Burhan whose killing on July 08, 2016 triggered a massive anti-India uprising during which armed forces shot dead over hundred civilians.
