Srinagar: All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) on Sunday said that Kashmir is neither a ‘bilateral issue’ nor a conflict related to borders between Pakistan and India.
All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) is an alliance of 26 political, social and religious organizations formed on March 9, 1993, as a united political front to raise the cause of the Kashmir cause. This alliance has historically been viewed positively by Pakistan as it contests the claim of the Indian government over the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
Commenting over the statement of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti, wherein she had said that “there is no place for third party mediation on Kashmir’’, Hurriyat reiterated its stance that ‘besides India, Pakistan & people of J&K, the UNO constitute as fourth party to the disputed issue of Jammu & Kashmir.’
“There is every apprehension that situation may go from bad to worst and turn like that of Syria, Iraq & Afghanistan, if the mediation of UN body or any third country is not solicited or accepted,” said Hurriyat.
“Both India and Pakistan have failed to solve the Kashmir problem bilaterally,” said Hurriyat, “nor any tangible progress has been observed through agreements.”
The situations remained unaffected between the two, said Hurriyat and added that despite 150 rounds of negotiations between Indo-Pak, there is no letup in bloodshed in Jammu Kashmir.
Kashmir is a long pending issue on the UN agenda & its international status is a recognized fact & beyond question, added Hurriyat.
India is a signatory to the instrument, agreed upon by Pakistan & International community & India has promised to ascertain the aspiration of people in J&K through right to self-determination, they said.
The Kashmir issue was raised in UNO by India, and hence admitted the importance of a status of a mediator. The more delay in its resolution will give rise to more complex situations, said Hurriyat.
Hurriyat said that situation can go beyond control, if the resolution is unnecessarily delayed and hence will give rise to situations like that of Syria and Iraq.
