NIA grills Geelani’s sons in alleged terror funding case

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday questioned Naeem Geelani and Naseem Geelani, sons of Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani, in connection with the ongoing probe into the alleged terror funding case.

The two brothers appeared at the NIA headquarters in central Delhi on Monday.

Beside Geelani’s sons, Ghulam Nabi Bhat, a pro-freedom activist, was also questioned by the counter-terror agency.

On Saturday, the NIA had summoned Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front leader Noor Muhammad Kalwal to appear before it on Monday.

On Thursday and Friday also, the NIA had questioned Geelani’s sons for over seven hours.

On July 24, the agency arrested seven pro-freedom leaders in connection with its probe.

The arrested include Geelani’s son-in-law Altaf Shah, Nayeem Khan, Aftab Hilali Shah better known as Shahid-ul-Islam, Ayaz Akbar Khandey, Peer Saifullah, Raja Mehrajuddin Kalwal and Farooq Ahmad Dar better known as Bitta Karate.

Another pro-freedom leader Shabir Shah, is also undergoing detention in Tihar jail after he was arrested by Enforcement Directorate on July 25.

Meanwhile, a Delhi court on Monday extended the NIA custody of Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Ahmad Shah Watali in the alleged funding case by five more days.

Watali, who is accused of acting as a conduit for illegally remitting funds to pro-freedom leaders is under the detention of NIA.
