Braid Cutting

70-year-old Anantnag man killed after being mistaken for a braid cutter

Anantnag: A 70-year-old man was killed when a protesting mob mistook him for a braid cutter today at Danter village, in Anantnag district of Kashmir Valley.

According to media reports, Abdul Salam Wani came out of his house late last night, apparently to answer nature’s call, when he was attacked with a brick.

The reports say that Wani was attacked after people mistook him for a braid cutter.

The 70-year-old was rushed to district hospital Anantnag late last night and then referred to SKIIMS, Soura but couldn’t survive the injuries.

With police and administration clueless, people from various areas of the valley have been acting on their own against the braid choppers. The vigilantism has resulted in beating and harassment of innocent people by angry mobs.

Yesterday police registered an FIR and arrested a “rumor monger” when some locals of Pattan, Baramulla mistook two laborers for braid-choppers.

The police have advised the people of the valley not to heed to rumors and beware of miscreants who are attempting to vitiate peace and order.
