Pulwama encounter: Civilian killed, at least twenty injured

Srinagar: A civilian, identified as Gulzar Ahmed Mir, a resident of Allaypora of Pulwama area was killed and twenty others have been injured in clashes during the Pulwama encounter.

Mir was rushed to the SMHS hospital however he succumbed to his injuries.

Another civilian, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, who also has a bullet injury has been referred to SMHS for specialized treatment.

In the district hospital of Pulwama, four civilians have been admitted with pellet injuries.

Earlier, among two militants killed in the Pulwama encounter, one is the Lashkar-e-Toiba district commander of the Shopian district, the police said.

Both slain militants were associated with LeT and have been identified as Wasim Shah alias Usman, a resident of Heff and Nasir Ahmed Mir of Litter.

Shah was the LeT commander.

Police also informed that one Ak-47, one AK-57 and six AK magazines were recovered from the gunfight site.

In massive clashes that erupted during the encounter, dozens of civilians have been injured. The protesters took to the streets after announcements were made on mosque loudspeakers.

At least three civilians have been hit by bullets.

The protesters pelted the forces with stones in Litter where the encounter is going on and adjacent villages to help the militants escape.

The forces responded by firing tear gas shells and resorted to firing.

Mediocs said that dozens have been injured in the clashes and at least three persons have bullet injuries.
