M4 Carbine gun recovered from JeM militants killed in Pulwama: Police

Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that a US made M4 Carbine gun was recovered from the Jaish-e-Mohammad militants killed during an encounter in Pulwama on Monday.

In a joint presser of the police, Army and the CRPF, the army said that the rifle is used by the special forces of Pakistan.

“This US-made M4 carbine is presently with a lot of armies with the NATO. This is used by the special forces of the Pakistan army,” said Major General BS Raju, General officer commanding (GOC) of the Victor Force.

He added, “So we have a reason to believe that this weapon was given by Pakistan army to JeM cadres.”

Cops said that they will take up different channels to investigate that how did such a gun land up with militants.

“How it (M4 carbine) come into the hands of this group, the matter will have to be taken up through different channels with concerned embassies. It is a subject matter of thorough investigation now,” said Inspector General of Police Munir Khan.

He said the matter will also be taken up with concerned embassies.

Three militants and an Army man were killed in the gunfight that began around 6pm in Kandi Aglar village.

The militants were identified as Talha Rasheed, who is the nephew of JeM chief Masood Azhar, Mehmood Bhai, divisional commander of the outfit and Waseem Ahmad Ganai of Drabgam Pulwama.

Recently, Hizbul Muhahideen militant Sameer Bhat alias Sameer Tiger’s picture with the same gun went viral on social media platforms.

The police had said that investigations have been started and they had reasons to believe that the gun was handed over to Tiger by Jaish-e-Mohammad cadres who according to the police have inflitrated into the valley a few months ago.
