High level committee constituted to register, dispose off complaints

Srinagar: The state government Tuesday informed the legislative Assembly that there has been an increase in the registration of cases relating to crime against women in the year 2017 as compared to the year 2016.

In a written reply to the legislative Assembly, the government has said that a number of steps have been taken to curb the crime against women. “Stringent provisions in the form of section 326- B RPC have been incorporated in J&K Ranbir Panel code (RPC) by virtue of which harsh punishments have been incorporated in the laws which may extent to life imprisonment,” the government has said.

The government has further said that that six women police stations have been established in the state for dealing with the cases exclusively related to crime against women. 5 women police stations have been recently sanctioned for the districts of Doda, Kathua, Pulwama, Kupwara, and Leh.

The government has also said that section 326- A and 326-B have recently been incorporated in RPC by the state government. Similarly section 545- B and 545- C have been inserted with a view to grant compensation and provide treatment to the victims of acid attack.

The government has further said that it has constituted a committee of officers vide government order No. 1312- HAS of 2013 dated 13.09.2013 to register and enquire into and dispose of the complaints, if any, of sexual harassment against women employees. “All the administrative Secretaries have been asked to constitute similar committees in their respective departments at the State/ Division/ District as the case may be. These committees are required to address all complaints of sexual harassment and submit action taken on the reports to the government”.

The government has further said that a women employees grievance cell under the charge of Commissioner/Secretary Social welfare has been set up in the civil secretariat to look into the complaints relating to sexual harassment of the women employees posted in the civil secretariat.
