Bar Association members meet Kashmiri prisoners lodged at Tihar jail, discuss legal defence

Discuss legal defense in the cases

Srinagar: Three member delegation of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) Srinagar, on Friday met Kashmiri prisoners lodged in Tihar jail.

According to the statement, the three member delegation comprising of Advocate G N Shaheen, General Secretary, Advocate Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, Vice president, and Advocate Arshad Andrabi, member executive, met Kashmir prisoners lodged in central jail Tihar No 4 and 8 in New Delhi,

The lawyers also met the accused in named the NIA case, Nayeem Khan, Peer Saifullah, Shahid Yousuf, Altaf Shah Fantosh, Aftab Hilali Shah, Farooq Dar, Zahoor Watali, Ayaz Akbar, Raja Mehrajudeen Kalwal, Javid Ahmad, Bhat Zahoor Ahmad, Peer Nazir Ahmad, Peer Aslam Wani and Ghulam Jeelani.

The trio discussed the legal defense in the cases being politically sensitive in nature. The team members picked up various problems relating to the safety and poor health of the prisoners with the jail authorities.

Notably, it is first time after 6 months that lawyers could meet these prisoners after their arrest by NIA.

It is pertinent to mention that NIA filed the charge sheet against Nayeem Khan and others before the court of special judge Taroon Sharawat at Patiala house court, New Delhi, yesterday. The accused were assisted by a team of lawyers including Adv. R.A Jan Mushtaq Dar G N Shaheen, Mohammad Ayoub Bhat Ravi Qazi Sanna Majeed Rajat bhatia and others.

The statement added that the case is now fixed for hearing on 30 January 2018.
