Shopian Gunfight: Two militants killed, says Police

Srinagar: Two militants, identified as Sameer Ahmad Wani of Odoo and Firdous Ahmad of Ganawpora were killed in the Shopian gunfight, the police informed.

A civilian, 17-year old Shakir Ahmad Mir, of Qalampora area was killed during clashes near the gunfight site, earlier. Anothet teenager was injured. During the clashes, two girls, both from Odoo village were critically injured after receiving bullet injuries.

The two have been identified as Sumi Jan and Sabreena. Bothe have been referred to Srinagar for specialised treatment.

Clashes had erupted near the gunfight site and government forces had opened fire in order to disperse the protesters.

Meanwhile, internet services have been snapped in both Shopian and Pulwama districts.

Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid said that two militants have been killed in the gunfight.

“In an encounter today at Saigund Shopian,” he said, two militants have been “neutralised and weapons have been recovered.”

“Unfortunately one boy was also killed in the cross-fire and two ladies sustained injuries. Search is still going on,” he said, in a tweet.
