Shopian civilian murders: Investigation into the ‘unfortunate killings’ will be taken to its logical end, says Mehbooba

Jammu: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said that the investigation into the ‘unfortunate killings’ in Shopian would taken to it’s logical end.

Her alliance partner BJP however has demanded that the FIR against the Army should be withdrawn.

Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Mehbooba said, “The Army would not be demoralized by registration of a single FIR. There can be black sheep in army also.”

She also mentioned that the police had advised the Army not to take the Gawanpora route, the place where the killings took place. Two boys, Javed Ahmed Bhat and Suhail Javed Lone were killed by the Army when their convey was pelted with stones on Saturday.

Earlier BJP’s R S Pathani said that the FIR should be withdrawn and a fresh one be lodged without naming anyone. As soon as the proceedings of the house started, the opposition demanded a discussion on the killings. After much furor and CM’s intervention, the speaker allowed the discussion.

National Conference demanded that all the Army men involved in the incident should be arrested.

Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident. Police has filed a murder case against the army.

On Sunday, Condemning the killing of civilians in Shopian, PDP leader and MLC Zaffar Iqbal Manhas had said such recurrent incidents should force the powers-that-be to do some soul-searching and face the reality that Jammu & Kashmir is an issue which calls for solution to prevent further loss of lives.

He added that inquiries have neither delivered justice nor stopped killings.
