Shopian civilian murders: Ordering a probe and lodging FIR at the same time confusing, says Omar

Jammu: Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said that when the government has already lodged an FIR against the Shopian murders, ordering a magisterial probe into the murders has confused the case.

The National Conference Working President added that the there is confusion due to the move about what needs to be probed.

Speaking in Legislative Assembly, Omar said, “Magisterial probe is ordered only if the culprits are unidentified while in this case the names were clearly mentioned in the FIR.”

The former chief minister said that the civilians were hit directly on there chest and heads which indicate no restraint was maintained while dealing with the situation. He said that despite finding army officials guilty in Machil encounter, nothing was done.

He also accused chief minister of playing politics over dead bodies. the former chief minister also pointed out that a BJP MLA demanded withdrawal of the FIR and on the other hand CM says that the investigation will be lead to its logical end, which shows that the coalition is divided on the issue.

Omar however assured full support to Mehbooba Mufti in all those steps which will bring Kashmir out of the present situation.

Earlier, the National Conference had demanded that all the Army men involved in the incident should be arrested. The BJP, who is in alliance with the ruling PDP, demanded that the FIR against the Army should be withdrawn and a fresh one be lodged without naming anyone.
