‘By calling an All Party Meet, Government wants to blame other parties for poll deferment’

Srinagar: The Congress on Wednesday said that the All Party Meet being convened over the deferment of Panchayat polls wouldn’t yield any results if Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti wouldn’t attend it.

The State Congress Chief G.A. Mir said that the meeting would be a mere time consuming exercise and wouldn’t prove fruitful at all if instead of the Chief Minister, Rural Development Minister is going to chair it.

“What mandate has Haq Khan got to chair the all party meet? He doesn’t have the portfolio of Home Affairs neither has he any say in the parliamentary affairs of the state. This is bizarre that instead of the chief minister, it is Khan who is going to sermonize different party leaders of the state,” Mir said.

He maintained further that Congress has already made its position clear that if it is not the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti who would attend the All Party Meet, no positive results would come out.

The Congress chief added that the present situation is the outcome of government’s inefficiency to deal with the situation and the security scenario should be ascertained before taking any decision. He added that the government should have taken all the political parties of the state on board and should have listened to their concerns ahead of announcing the Panchayat polls in the state.

“Now when the situation has turned worrisome, the government by calling the All Party meet is trying to pass the buck to other parties over deferment of the polls. Actually, it is the inefficiency of the present regime and no other party is responsible for it,” Mir said.
