Move to safer places: Pakistan Army tells Uri residents amid intense shelling

Uri: Pakistan Army on Saturday through public announcement systems asked the residents of Uri to vacate their homes and move to safer places, reported the Greater Kashmir.

The announcements came amid intense shelling from both sides of the Line of Control in the area.

According to the report, in Uri’s Silkote and Churanda five residential houses were damaged due to heavy exchange of artillery between the two sides.

An official was quoted in the report saying that evacuation of people has started on ‘war footing’. The official added that scores of vehicles including ambulances are being used to evacuate people. He informed that around 100 people have been relocated so far.

Meanwhile, the local administration in Uri has established control room in the area.
Officials said that several people are reportedly trapped in Silkote and Churanda villages and efforts are on to shift them to safer places.

According to a report in the Hindu, at least 18 families are stranded due to firing and shelling. The sub-divisional magistrate Dr. Sagar told the newspaper that the local administration has declared an emergency.

“We are preparing accommodation so that the population is shifted,” he said.
