Kulgam Civilian Killings: Malik detained, Mirwaiz placed under house arrest

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik after presiding over a presser in Abi Guzar area of the city, tried to march towards the Clock Tower to protest against the civilian killings in Kulgam.

However, Malik was detained by the police contingent present in the area.

Earlier, Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest at his residence in Nigeen.
Mirwaiz addressed the press conference on telephone. In his message, Mirwaiz asked people to remain “mentally-ready” for a mass uprising against the “blood-bath” in the valley.

Mirwaiz in a tweet had also said that the Operation All Out launched by the Indian state against militants is actually Operation Wipe Out.

Three civilians were killed in clashes near the gun fight site in Khudwani area of Kulgam. Around 50 people have been injured. An Army man was also killed in the gun fight.

To fight the trapped militants, the army has used helicopter gun ships.

The civilian deaths occur just two days after Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti met the Prime Minister and Defence Minister of India. In her meeting with Narendra Modi, she had appealed for finding ways to end the bloodshed and alienation in the valley.

During her meeting with Nirmala Sitharaman, Mehbooba had called for a ‘humane approach and avoiding collateral damage during security operations’.
