Omar says KU Professor’s killing answer to those who claim jobs solution to violence, alienation in Kashmir

Omar Abdullah, the Working President of the Natiional Conference on Sunday said that the killing of the Kashmir University Professor Mohammad Rafi Bhat in the Shopian Gunfight is an answer to those who claim that jobs are the solution to violence and alienation in Kashmir.

In a tweet, the former Chief Minister said:


Mohammad Rafi Bhat, an assistant professor of the Sociology department of the Kashmir University went missing on Friday. His missing had triggered protests in the varsity. However, in the gunfight in Shopian, in which five militants were killed, he was one of them.

Saddam Padder, the top Hizb commander was also killed in the gun fight. Police had said that Bhat’s family was also brought to the gun fight site to persuade him to  surrender.

Meanwhile, a 17-year old boy, identified as Asif Ahmad Mir who was critically injured during clashes which erupted near the gunfight site in Shopian, succumbed to his injuries at the SMHS Hospital in Srinagar on Sunday.
