Personal Security Officer of Rising Kashmir Editor Shujaat Bukhari succumbs to injuries

The Personal Security Officer (PSO), who was critically injured in the attack on Rising Kashmir’s editor Syed Shujaat Bukhari, has succumbed to his injuries.

PSO Mumtaz Ahmad, who was critically injured in the attack has succumbed to his injuries in the SMHS hospital.

The Editor of Rising Kashmir Shujaat Bukhari, on Thursday, was shot by unidentified gunmen outside his office in Srinagar, a day before Eid and few minutes before Iftiyar. Bukhari succumbed to his injuries and was declared ‘brought dead’ at the hospital.

He is said to have received multiple bullets in the head and abdomen. He was accompanied by his driver and Personal Security Officer (PSO), who were earlier said to be critical.

Bukhari was a vocal advocate for the rights of Kashmiris and defended the rights on Indian and International Television. A veteran journalist and the editor of Srinagar based Rising Kashmir, he previously worked as Bureau Chief of The Hindu for 15 years.

An extensively travelled journalist Bukhari was a writer in Kashmiri and Urdu and also the president of Adbee Markaz Kamraz, the biggest and oldest cultural and literary organization of Valley.

Bukhari had earlier survived three assassination attempts during his challenging career.

The media fraternity in Kashmir was shocked when the news broke of the editor being shot in the Press Avenue.
