Anantnag gunfight: Mobile internet snapped in Srinagar, Anantnag and Pulwama

Srinagar: As a ‘precautionary measure to maintain law and order’, mobile internet services have been snapped in three districts of the valley after a gunfight broke in Anantnag.

The services have been barred in Srinagar, Anantnag and Pulwama districts of the valley, a police official told Press Trust of India.

He said the decision to suspend the services has been taken as a “precautionary measure to maintain law and order.”

In the ongoing gunfight, a civilian and a policeman were killed and a woman, two army men were injured.

the civilian identified as Muhammad Yousuf Rather is the owner of the house where militants were hiding. The woman injured, identified as Hafeeza is his wife. Both were taken to the sub-district hospital of Bijbehara however Rather was declared brought dead. Hafeeza has been shifted to SKIMS for treatment.

Two army men and a cop of Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police were injured in the firefight. The injured were rushed to a hospital where the cop succumbed.

Meanwhile, massive clashes have erupted near the site of the gunfight and in the adjoining areas. According to reports, nearly twenty civilians were injured in clashes that erupted soon after the gunfight began. They have been shifted to several hospitals in the district for treatment.
