Curfew-like situation enforced in parts of Pulwama

Amid shutdown in parts of Srinagar, curfew-like situation is being enforced in many parts of the main town Pulwama.

Passengers are also being stopped in the 4-way Murran chowk road. A CRPF convoy has blocked the Pulwama-Newa road and vehicles coming toward are being stopped or being asked to go back. Eyewitnesses have said that no vehicle is being allowed to move on the same road. Apart from that, roads have been blocked at a lot of places.

More details are being awaited.

Earlier, on Sunday, two militants of the Lashkar-e-Toiba were killed in a gunfight in the Chidder village of Qaimoh tehsil of Kulgam district. In the clashes which ensued the near the gunfight sight a civilian identified as Yawar Ahmad Dar of Gassipora, who was critically injured, was declared brought dead at the Anantnag District hospital.

One militant, the police said, was arrested alive.

The Joint Resistance Leadership comprising of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Yasin Malik have called for shutdown in Kashmir on Tuesday against the continuous civilian killings.

A senior Police official told news agency GNS that two militants were killed and third one has surrendered. The police identified one of the slain militant as Shakoor Ahmad, a top commander of LeT from Kulgam.

Ahmed, according to the police was a  A++ category militant. According to the police the other slain militant might be an foreigner.

As soon as the forces approached the suspected spot, the militants hiding in a residential house opened fire on them. The forces retaliated, triggering a gunfight.

The third militant who has surrendered has been identified as Shakir Ahmad. He had reportedly joined the outfit few months ago.
