Four militants killed in ongoing Rafiabad gunfight, says Army

Srinagar: Army on Wednesday claimed to have killed four militants in an ongoing gunfight in the forests in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

An army spokesman said that four militants were killed in the ongoing gunfight. “The operation is going on,” he said.

The Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid earlier had said that five militants were trapped in the ongoing gunfight with armed forces in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir.

Vaid on his Twitter handle had written that the “encounter (is) going on in Dooniwari forest area of Police Station Dangiwacha Sopore. Report of presence of 5 terrorists,”

Earlier in the day,  a para commando was injured in the gunfight. Reports said a joint team of army’s 32 RR and 9 PARA commandos launched a cordon-and-search operation in the dense woods of upper reaches of Rafiabad in the wee hours of Wednesday.

GNS, while quoting a police officer said that the operation was launched in the woods and added that the joint team of forces and a group of militants hiding in the area had exchanged fire.

Meanwhile, official sources told GNS that a para-commando suffered critical bullet injuries and was evacuated to a military hospital for treatment.
