Article 35-A row: JRL calls for shutdown on August 26, 27

Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership, comprising of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq called for a two-day shutdown on August 26 and 27 against the assault on special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

“A complete shutdown should be observed across the state on August 26-27 against the assault on Article-35A,” Mirwaiz told Kashmir Reader.

Further details of the JRL programmme, Mirwaiz said will be communicated to the media through a statement shortly.

On August 27, the three judge bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud will take up petitions demanding scrapping of Article-35A, which gives special rights and privileges to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, a Delhi-based NGO “We the Citizens” filed the main petition followed by three petitions filed by West Pakistan Refugees Action Committee, Dr Charu Wali Khanna, and Kali Dass, which were later clubbed together.
