In protest against attempts to abrogate State Subject law, Kashmir, Jammu shuts on Joint Resistance’s call

Srinagar: A complete shutdown is being observed in Jammu and Kashmir against attempts to abrogate with Article 35-A of the Indian constitution which bars outsiders from buying immovable property in the region.

On the call issued by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), life remained paralysed in Kashmir valley to protest against attempts to tinker with the legislation.

All shops and other business establishments are closed in the commercial hub of Lal Chowk in Srinagar and other areas of the city, and public transport is off the roads.

Reports of complete shutdown were also received from other districts of the Valley.

Shutdown is also being observed in Chenab Valley areas of Doda, Bhaderwah, Banihal, Thathri, Gandoh and Kishtwar.

Pir Panjal areas of Rajouri and Poonch are also observing a shutdown to protest the attempts to scrap the article which gives special privileges to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir.

The government had announced on Wednesday that there would be restriction on the movement in many parts of Kashmir.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a bunch of petitions challenging Article 35-A tomorrow.
